ADDRESS

Michelle Bachelet

CLOSE CAMPAIGN

National Stadium Centre Court | Santiago, December 12, 2013

Good afternoon girlfriends and friends! What good spirits and looking forward what is perceived here! I can feel
energy, good vibes, and optimism! I also feel the love, strength and even the
impatience and soon arrive Sunday!

9 months ago we began this journey. I still remember that morning in March when I returned and
It caused surprise me to see so many people at the airport. From then on, I have not stopped
walk in Chile.

This campaign has been long and intense, but full of satisfaction. A campaign that I have been
allowed re-meet people, their concerns, hear their proposals and
know their fears and hopes.

In recent months I have met with very different people: with people from the north, south,
city, small towns.

Fishermen, miners, farmers, artists, retail workers, small and medium
businessmen, entrepreneurs, representatives of the churches.

Indigenous women, confectionery, temporary, academic, parliamentary, heads of household.

People with disabilities, youth, students, seniors.

With all of them, I have seen the enormous variety of hopes and aspirations that exist in our
territory.

The campaign had three great moments.

First, we won the primaries, with surprising citizen participation.

We had strong support for the three major reforms of our proposal: reform
education, tax reform and a new constitution.

Then we won in the first round, despite the active efforts of the government and its ministers
by attacking our proposals, blame economic problems and even stop
moored initiatives beyond the term of his mandate. Actions like these do not help
build a good policy and good politics can not be just a campaign slogan but
we practice it daily.

Also won in the parliament, we have a majority in both houses, which gives the floor
to start making the changes that Chile hopes.

We will have in 2014 a parliament for change, with new figures like Ivan Fuentes Carolina
Goic, Camila Vallejo, Giorgio Jackson or Karol Cariola, who along with parliamentarians
Experienced constitute the force that these changes require.

And now, in this second round, we've added daily more and more support.

We have the immediate support of an international leader like Lula Da Silva, who did not
He hesitated to travel to be with us. Add the support of Alfredo Sfeir, Barbara Figueroa,
Democratic Revolution, and representatives of almost all other applications that
They competed in the first round.

We have the support of the world of culture, artists, social leaders, trade union leaders.
To all of them I say that this project belongs to everyone, and that success also
will depend on the united, loyal, and participatory work we are able to accomplish.

At this time also, we learned of the departure of two great leaders who had the honor of
know. I want to take this moment to make a tribute.

I am referring to Nelson Mandela and Father Alfonso Baeza.

They were the two tireless workers of peace, solidarity and social justice.

They embody a type of leadership that identifies me deeply: a leadership that will
It is good for the country, because it seeks to unite and find the similarities and not divide and sow
odiosidades.

Friends:

In this campaign we decided to play fair and not grow at the expense of the disqualification of the other,
girl fight, false allegations. And we did it knowing that this way of doing politics
is for many boring or fome. And we were right.

In this campaign we decided to build a government proposal and with the citizens,
dialogues with thousands of people in the regions and not within four walls in Santiago.

And we did so because we are facing a new Chile.

A Chile where citizens defend their right to express themselves and have pushed large
tasks we have as a society.

A Chile where students prefer to complete their school year in February or March of the year
Next, if that helps to have a quality education, free and without profit.

A Chile where thousands of people march in defense of the environment, communities
indigenous, the right to better health and respect for diversity.

A Chile with a burgeoning middle class, striving, driving growth with
work and without embargo sometimes feels overwhelmed by debt or lack of support
and opportunities.

A Chile that has certainly made significant progress, which has grown a lot. But his
growth has not reached all its inhabitants alike.

A Chile believes that there are some things that do not give more, and must change.

And I believe in the changes. I think that Chile is ready to face transformations
They allow you to have the modern country we all want.

We can give every person more opportunities for their education, for their work,
recreation and access to culture.

We can ensure the same development opportunities to every child, every child, regardless
the economic situation of their parents, sex, religion or place of Chile where they live.

We can make thousands of women and young people to be trained and incorporated into the workplace.

We can ensure fairer and better labor rights conditions for those people
negotiate with their employers.

We can fight hard abuse, collusion, bad practices, pituto, the
privileges.

We can give real power to the regions to stop relying on the decisions of the
capital.

We can assure modernity not only in large numbers, but in real life people:
a modern health with quality care, closer to home.

We can have safer friendliest cities, with connectivity, with access facilities
for people with disabilities, with more parks, bike paths and recreation.

We can make room for innovation, research, entrepreneurship and creativity.

We can ensure that the culture, art and sport are not luxuries, but real possibilities
available to anyone.

We can guarantee respect and equality to all people, to banish all forms of discrimination
from differences.

In other words, we can make Chile a truly developed country.

This is what is at stake in the elections this Sunday.

And why it is that not does not matter who wins.

Sunday 15 mass must say that Chile wants real change, with responsibility,
OFERTON seriousness without breaking.

Because this election is much more to choose one candidate or another.

Here it is not about choosing between "two women" as he likes to tell the press. Here is a
Unlike background.

This December 15 must choose between an option that thinks that we should not make changes,
you have to let things continue as they are, and who prefer a setting "here and another there."

And the other alternative, which represents the New Majority, we believe that things well
as they are unable to follow. It is necessary to make changes that allow face
inequality, while promoting economic development that reaches everyone and not just
few.

We have proposed a draft ambitious but possible changes, with clear mechanisms
and to bring forward concrete.

It is not magic bullets, but from the will of a president, her energy and determination,
and irreplaceable support of millions of Chileans who believe in this proposal.

We have the ideas, we have the strength in parliament and now we need you, your
families and friends, for this December 15 will go to the polls and give us their support.

I know that this Sunday we will achieve a decisive victory! And we will do together, as
we've done every step of the way.

I invite you to vote. I invite you to get up early that day and know that we will be marking
not a name, but a destiny for our country.

As this "new majority" that we can do much more than from skepticism.

Sunday begins a new era for Chile.

A stage in which you, the citizens of our country again be
in the center of all transformations.

Before closing, I want to thank everyone who participated in this campaign:

A independent, artists, social leaders, parliamentarians, mayors and
councilors, professionals, political parties and the thousands of volunteers who participated
anonymously in this campaign. Thanks for your work, confidence and dedication.

Friends,

I had the honor of being the first female president of Chile.

I have had the privilege of being their candidate and have the opportunity to hear the views of
a new Chile unstoppable rising throughout the territory. And it will be a great honor
again be "the president of all Chileans will."

Thank you!
